Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Soft Matter includes a wide variety of physical states between the solids and the liquids: colloids, polymers, granular materials... In this course, we will analyse the simulation methods related to soft matter physics.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
After this course, the student will be able:
- to use the numerical methods presented in the course: the event-driven, the molecular dynamics and the contact dynamics,
- to confront numerical and experimental results,
- to adapt a code or to use an existing library to study an original system related to Soft Matter.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The prerequisites are thorough knowledge in programming and numerical analysis.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Realization of a project.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Recommended or required readings
Assessment methods and criteria
The student realizes a project and will present it to the other students. The professor and possibly invited experts will ask questions in relation with the course.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session
Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning
Students work individualy based on the notes that are availabale on the plateform. Forums allow an exchange bewteen students and teachers. Certain lessons as well as tutoring sessions concerning the diffrents projects linked to the course are held via videoconfernce.
Assessment subjects
Fields that are covered by the evaluation are the notion concerning DEM as described in the course as well as the physical principles involved in the project of each student.
Assessment methods
The student realizes a project and will present it to the other students via videoconference. The professor and possibly invited experts will ask questions in relation with the course. Furthermore, a short project report has to be handed in.
Contacts
Teachers can be contacted via email adress or via the forum that was set up.
