Learning unit contents
The course will focus on the notion of "spiritual exercises" in Hellenistic philosophy.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the course is to analyse a text which role within Western culture appears to be fundamental, namely regarding our ethics and our practice of philosophy.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
No knowledge of Ancient Greek is required.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
After a general introduction, every session will have the form of a seminar, in which we will read collectively a portion of the text. Students are asked to read the texte beforehand. Some students will be asked successively to prepare a chunck of text.

Recommended or required readings
Students will be provided with a selected bibliography during the course.
Assessment methods and criteria
Students will be evaluated according to their presentations during the class, and to their term paper.
