Learning unit contents
This class includes three parts:
- fossil animals
- fossil plants
- micropaleontology
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Fossil animals
Knowing the nature and biases of the Metazoan fossil record, the evolution and extinction of the main animal lineages as well as the modern techniques of palaeobiology.
Fossil plants
Knowing and understand the evolution of the different lineages of embryophytes (land plants).
Micropaleontology
at the end of the class, the student will be able to describe the major steps of evolution of the three domains of life and their microscopic fossil record.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge of the morphology, physiology, systematics, ecology and biology of microorganisms, plants and animals
Moreover, a basic knowledge in geology is also requested.

face-to-face lectures ilustrated with fossil demonstration.

partim Micropaleontology:
The evaluation will consist on the redaction of a short discussion paper based on the content of the lectures. This paper is to be send by mail to the professor (ej.javaux@uliege.be) on the exam day (august 27th) before 17h. Details will be sent to the students after the deliberations.
partim Fossil Animals and Fossil Plants:
Two open-ended questions on eCampus. Information regarding the duration of the exam will be provided at the beginning of the exam session.
