Introduction to the profession of therapeutic patient educator
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The main objectives of this course are:
-to allow students to familiarise themselves with the approach of Therapeutic Patient Education through observation and reflective analysis of the practices of healthcare professionals who educate patients affected by a chronic disease;
-to contribute to the development of a professional identity in their area of activity and thus better understand the future professional sector where they will exercise their skills;
-to allow students to discover the specific characteristics of their option on the basis of classes, interviews and seminars.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The placement will allow students to evolve within educational healthcare teams.
Students are asked to keep a logbook concerning the development of their reflective analysis as regards the profession of therapeutic educator.
Various face-to-face seminars are planned to help participants develop their reflective analysis as regards the profession of therapeutic patient educator, and to make links between theory and practice.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Students are required to do 40 hours of job shadowing where they learn about the activities of a hospital or outpatient service, which implements therapeutic patient education activities.
Students do their reflective analysis work at home.
Preparation for the placement and feedback on it take place in face-to-face sessions.

Active participation of students in class (20%)
Written work (80%)
