Organisation and examination
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Teaches, based on experimental observations, how to build mathematical models describing the non linear behavior of solids, especially elasto-plastic, visco-plastic and visco elastic material models. Subsequently describes the numerical algorithms suited for model solution.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Being able to
- Understand and design complex material models
- Understand numerical techniques to solve the model
- Use a finite element code for structure simulation in the elastic-plastic domain.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Mechanics of materials, continuum mechanics and finite elements.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Exercises + personal project
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
1st quadrimester. Face to face + exercices + computer project.
Recommended or required readings
English version of the slides available via eCampus.
Assessment methods and criteria
First session takes place in January
If there is a project:
Theory : oral exam (50%)
Exercises : written test (20%)
Personal project (30%) - The grade for the project is final.
If there is no project:

Assessment methods
-Oral exam through video conference (English or French are allowed)
https://call.lifesizecloud.com/4372689
-The oral exam will be OPEN books.
-Each student will be allotted a slot of 30 minutes maximum.
-One among the questions (see list on eCampus) will be randomly assigned.
-The student will have to answer straightforwardly, without any preparation time. This is Open Books!
-Further questions regarding the links between different parts of the course can be asked.
The final grade will be based on two components:
1) the group project (accounting for 40% of the final grade) that has already been graded. As this grade is already 'final', no project means the student will get a grade of 'absent' for that part! (and consequently an 'absent' for the final whole grade)
2) the oral exam (accounting for 60% of the final grade)
