Learning unit contents

This course aims at preparing the students to scientific reading and writing in Romance Studies.
Firstly, the students attend to ex-cathedra presentations, on the following topics:

  • bibliography
  • disciplinary trends, theoretical paradigms and methodological frameworks
  • how to read a scientific text?
  • how to write a scientific text?
Secondly, the course follows a seminar format: students discuss the problems they face in their written assignments.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the class, the students will be able to plan by themselves a graduate thesis in Romance studies.

The course is given face-to-face only,
- following an ex-cathedra format for its first part,
- following a seminar format for its second part.

Recommended or required readings

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam, duration: 20 min.
Students will have to:
- show their knowledge of the scientific reading and writing principles as presented during the class;
- show reflectively how they implemented these principles in one of the written assignments the made during the current academic year.

The course takes place on 2nd Term only, on Mondays, from 11AM to 1PM, classroom "Petit Physique".
Resumption : Monday, February 3th 2020, 11AM.
