Learning unit contents
We will begin by defining the specificity and the field of pragmatics in relation to linguistics and its related areas of study and research.
We will take a look, in succession, at different types of pragmatics, whether this is in the framework of the philosophy of language, cognitive linguistics, or the linguistics of enunciation.
Finally we shall propose pathways for reflection upon the resources offered by pragmatics in order to analyse various situations of communication.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Introduce the participants to the principles and to the debates of the pragmatics, and give them an opportunity to understand its issues and to put them into discussion.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Some knowledge in linguistics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Throughout the presentation of the theory, the students are expected to participate actively in the discussions provoked and the practical exercises and case studies that are put to them.
