Learning unit contents
The author to be read in this class can vary each time. During the academic year 2019-2020 Basil of Caesarea's Address to young men on the study of classical literature will be read, explained, translated and commented on. There is no private reading.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Linguistic training, illustrating the main literary genres as well as Greek civilisation and stimulating the reading of Greek authors.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Very good knowledge of Ancient Greek. Personal preparation is required each week.

Two hours a week during the second term.
Recommended or required readings
Text edition: Fernand Boulenger (CUF, 1935), in free access at the library. This Paris edition has been reedited without critical apparatus in: Basile de Césarée, Aux jeunes gens. Comment tirer profit de la littérature grecque, texte établi par Fernand Boulenger, introduction, traduction et notes par Arnaud Perrot, Paris, Les Belles Lettres, coll. « Classiques en poche », 2012. Parallel texts are being put at your disposal on eCampus. No syllabus.
