The textbook "Ter Zake" is used to introduce and develop the following subjects :
  • introducing oneself, speaking about one's hobbies, preferences, etc.
  • cultural differences (in business)
  • going to the restaurant
  • how to telephone (for business)
  • making an appointment
  • taking a message
  • preparing and giving a presentation
  • participating in a meeting
  • giving one's point of view
  • negociating
  • preparing one's cv
  • preparing a motivation letter and a job interview
Other authentic documents about scientific subjects will be handed out during the year.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The course objective is to prepare students to business situations in Flanders and in The Netherlands.
Focus on speeking and writing.

A2 level of CEFRL + Partim 1

2 hours a week during the 2nd part of the year.

Assessment methods and criteria

  • Oral presentation in the second part of the year (1/6 of the final mark, for June as well for September). Subject : internship, final dissertation, ...
  • written exam: to write an e-mail, a letter, to give one's opinion, ...
  • oral exam: each student has to prepare an article about a scientific subject.

Tasks on a weekly basis by mutimail on my.uliege.
Written assignments, correction and feedback by email.
Virtual classroom on Discord (oral practice).
Simulated oral evaluation on Webex.

- Presentation of a topic chosen by the student.
