Learning unit contents

This course is organized around concrete situations related to everyday life and professional life:

  • touching topics such as transport, telephoning, office/house, daily/office tasks, welcoming and directing customers, a business trip...
  • exercising skills such as sharing a memory/happening, setting goals, expressing a preference/an opinion, comparing, giving a technical explanation... 
  • studying dialogues and texts while progressively integrating linguistic and grammatical structures
  • systematically reusing and consolidating vocabulary and language structures studied in previous lessons.

Goal: reaching the A2+/B1 level of the CECRL

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Prerequisite: LANG1936-1 Néerlandais élementaire 1

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Learning ativities such as:

  • roleplaying
  • conversation and discussion exercises
  • reading and studying of short manageable texts
  • listening comprehension of audio and video documents
  • vocabulary assimilation
  • grammar drills
  • writing short and simple texts summaries, mails,...
 

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Face to face during the second semester (2h/week) Students are required to prepare activities and exercises on a weekly basis as indicated by the teacher.

Assessment methods and criteria

Final exam consisting of 2 compulsary assessments:  
Written exam in 2 parts:
Part 1 (4/20): listening comprehension 
Part 2 (8/20): reading and writing skills, grammar and vocabulary 
Oral exam (8/20)


  • simulation of a job interview
  • questions on a file of recent newspaper articles compiled by the student in advance and handed in by 01/12/2019.

Students need to register in advance for their oral exam.
NB: A student who does not take all parts of the exam, obtains 0/20 as a global mark.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the Aug-Sept 2020 session

Assessment subjects

The student should be able to:
- express himself/herself and answer oral questions about the articles he/she has chosen and handed it by 10/08/2020: questions of content, vocabulary and opinion (= file of articles)
- present a job offer and answer typical job interview questions that focus on the job offer (= job interview)
- answer specific questions on the subjects seen in the coursebook and syllabus, namely (1) vocabulary (translations, synonyms, definitions, etc.), (2) grammar (being able to conjugate a verb in a given tense, etc.) and (3) content of the files (being able to express oneself on the topics covered, summarize the texts or videos read/viewed, give one's opinion, etc.).
These three parts will be organised in the form of an oral examination online using a videoconferencing application. There will be no 'written' part. 


 
 

Assessment methods

Oral exam online via a videoconference platform.
Note: students have to send their press articles & their job offer by 10/08/2020 at the latest. This will guarantee their registration for the oral exam. The practical details (order of taking the exam, connection links) will be communicated by email.
