Learning unit contents

In this course, the student will:
1. expand and deepen his knowledge of business German, for the four skills:

  • listening
  • reading
  • speaking
  • writing
2. discover several aspects of business life in Germany.
Main topics:
  • Wirtschaftsbereiche und -branchen
  • Geschäftsidee und Rechtsform
  • Kommunikation am Telefon
  • Messeplanung und -vorbereitung
  • Konflikt im Team wegen Einarbeitung einer neuen Kollegin

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course will

  • help students to demonstrate scientific precision and a critical mind.
  • help students to communicate efficiently, internally and externally, about a company, organization or project.
  • allow students to improve their proficiency in German as a foreign language
  • allow students to raise their awareness of the multicultural and international features of their environment.
  • encourage students to be curious and to show a scientific precision of academic level.

 
At the end of Master: European level B2

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The student should already know German (European level B1).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In the class room:

  • brushing up the grammar rules
  • discovering several chapters of the book (vocabulary, grammar)
  • listening comprehension
  • oral exercises


Home work:
  • grammar and vocabulary exercises (for example on Lol@: online exercises)
  • reading comprehension exercises
  • written exercises


We'll regularly use multimedia engineering.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

24 hours in the class room + exercises at home and on Lol@.

Assessment methods and criteria

Individual evaluation.
If the class is not to big, some parts of the exam could be during the semester.
Written exam (in June): 60%: - listening comprehension - grammar and vocabulary - writing an e-mail
Oral exam + reading comprehension: 40%

The student who doesn't take all the parts of the exam will become 0/20 as final mark.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session

Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning

Since March 16th: distance learning (guided work at home + oral training via "Lifesize" and "Collaborate")

Assessment subjects

What you have to learn:

  • vocabulary of chapters 1 and 3 of the book + vocabulary about statistics + Grundwortschatz: Kapitel 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13 und 14)
What you have to prepare (at home):
  • writing a essay in German about a press article in French
  • oral presentation of a company (information retrieval, Powerpoint design, oral presentation)
  • preparation of press articles in German (portfolio)

Assessment methods

No written exam.

Oral exam (videoconference) - in German:


  • Feedback and questions about the essay on the press article in French (no student will be admitted to take the oral exam if he/she has not submitted the essay)
  • oral presentation by the student of a German company
  • vocabulary questions - short sentences to be translated orally or via chat
  • presentation of press articles, discussion about the topics
