Learning unit contents

The aim of this course is to improve the knowledge and the know-how acquired by the student, on a linguistic level (structures, specific vocabulary) and in the understanding of German (business-) culture.

Taught in German - and in French for grammar explanations

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In connection with the KLOs, this course aims to help the students: - to communicate in a precise and fluent way in German, orally and in writing; - to adapt their language and their register to the situation, being aware of its multicultural components; - to be autonomous; - to be curious and rigorous; - to take the social, economic, political and environmental reality of German speaking countries into account.   At the end of the class: European level B2

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Having passed the exam for advanced students in the 2nd bachelor's degree (LANG1910-1) or having european B1+ level

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Discovering different aspects of business life in Germany (vocabulary, cultural and economical aspects).
Exercises in the multi-media lab, on line exercises (lol@) and work to do in class or at home to improve the 4 skills (writing, reading, speaking and understanding).
Debates; presentations.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

70 h lectures in the class-room and homework.

Translating dictionary, for example Harrap's or Langenscheidt or online dictionary.

Assessment methods and criteria

Tests during the year what means that it is necessary to be present
Written exam (50 %): 
During the year + January and June


  • Grammar and vocabulary exercises
  • Essay
  • Listening comprehension
  • Part of the written assessment is organised as an online evaluation by an external agency - more information about this during the semester.
 
Oral exam (40 %): 
During the year: Presentation with another student of a topic based on 2 documents in german
June: Questions and presentation of a company.
Participation
Students have to take all the different parts of the examination, otherwise the final mark will be 0/20

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session

Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning

Since March 16: Fully online course (documents posted on Lol@, oral exercises in videoconference).

Assessment subjects

  • oral presentation of a German company
  • preparing press articles
  • online vocabulary, grammar and listening comprehension test (about basic vocabulary and main grammar rules)

Assessment methods

No written exam. No essay, no test about "Auberge Allemande".

Only an indivual oral exam in German (video-conference):




  • oral presentation of the company in German
  • oral presentation of 5 topics chosen by the student in a portfolio available on Lol@ - the student should expose the topic and give his/her opinion
Students must also take the online "eLAO" test. If they pass, they will receive a bonus.
 
Mark:
  • grammar and vocabulary in Januar (20 points), essay in Januar (40 points), listening comprehension Januar (20 points), oral presentation in the class (20 points), continuous assessment (10 points) = 110/200 points
  • oral exam in June: 90 points
