Assessment methods
The 3-hour in-person written exam is replaced with a homework assignment that consists in exactly the same task as the original written exam, i.e. writing a 1,000-word essay so as to comment on one or several sources. While writing the essay, you are not allowed to consult external sources (e.g., Wikipedia) and websites offering automatic translation services (DeepL, Google Translate). You are allowed to use online and offline linguistic resources (English dictionaries, French-English dictionaries, synonym and collocation dictionaries, Linguee, etc.) as well as your previous assignments. You must write the essay completely on your own, without any external help. The day of the oral exam, I can ask you to explain any sentence that you wrote to make sure you wrote them yourself. The assignment will be open for a few days.
The in-person oral exam is replaced with an online oral exam taking place on Zoom consisting in exactly the same task as the original oral exam, i.e. defending your essay. Students are strongly advised to use a laptop with a microphone and a webcam, but a smartphone will do.
