Introduction to research in medieval History. Pratical exercises.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the year, the student will be able
- to initiate a documentary research
- to identify a narrative or diplomatic source
- to communicate orally or in writing the result of his/her research
- to retranslate and to give a commentary on the latin texts given in courses

- HIST0040-1

- Notions of classical latin grammar : LCLA0018-1 or LCLA0068-1
- A good command of the oral and written French.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Theoretical and pratical introduction to rules of historical criticism in medieval history and to the typology of western medieval sources.
Collaborative practical exercises in class and individual pratice in library.

Introduction to bibliography : on Wednesday 16-18 (see posted schedule )
Supplementary bibliographical practices will be organized during the year (little groups and schedule to set up)

Written and oral examination in June
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 10% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20). Please note that the final exam for this course is cumulative.

Assessment subjects
As this course is a course of practical training in research in medieval history, the notion of competence will be preferred to that of a teaching subject.
The objectives of the course as announced remain in force provided that the corresponding learning activities have been organised as part of the course.
Assessment methods
The evaluation of this course will be done by open book exclusively in writing, over a period of 3 hours, on a fixed date specified at the time of publication of the examination schedules. It will be an opportunity to evaluate the skills listed in the previous point.
