Course contents
The theoretical course is made of 5 chapters:
- What is spatial planning?
- Spatial planning and the related disciplines
- Spatial planning and environment
- The context of spatial planning in Wallonia
- The spatial planning devices in Wallonia
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Provide theoretical and practical knowledges about spatial planning devices and practices.
Those knowledges have three main purposes:
- to allow students to reframe issues and political debates in the field of spatial planning and mobility;
- to prepare students to intervene in the fields of territorial developments and spatial planning (local developments interventions, urban planning interventions, management of European projects...);
- to identify the territorial consequences of territorial policies and land use planning.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
An open attitude towards social and economic problems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical lessons and fieldworks
- Use of spatial information visualization tools (mapping, landscaping tools)
- Analysis of documents produced in the context of spatial planning, mobility and urban design projects
- Identification of morphological and territorial elements on the basis of satellite images.
- Preparation of the oral presentations for the fieldworks;
- Meetings with experts.
- Fieldwork and visits, flipped classroom.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
- 15 hours of theoretical lectures;
- 12 hours of practical lessons (face-to-face);
- 3 hours of tutoring (distance-learning);
- 2 days of fieldworks.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam in the first session (75 %)
Open questions about the theoretical courses (50%) and the field visits (25%).
Évaluation individuelle.
Field visits (25 %)
Evaluation of the field presentation of concepts or projects related to land use and mobility, including the guide document produced to accompany this visit.
Group-by-group evaluation.
The evaluation criteria will be specified during the first session of the practical lessons.
An unjustified absence during the field visits results in a rating of 0/20 for the entire teaching unit in the first session. If the first-session evaluation of field visits is less than 10/20 (or at the student's request), this part of the evaluation is replaced in the second session by an analysis of a concept or case study chosen by the professor (individual written report).
Second session: oral exam in teachers' officeiled slideshows, bibliography, technical notes and scientific articles available via MyULiège.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the Aug-Sept 2020 session

La matière de l'évaluation est identique à celle de juin 2020. Il s'agit de toute la matière vue lors des cours théoriques et des travaux pratiques.
Assessment methods
Vis-à-vis des résultats de la première session, deux situations peuvent être rencontrées :
- Les deux évaluations (travail de groupe et examen écrit) sont inférieures à 10/20 : vous devez alors représenter les deux évaluations.
- Une évaluation (travail de groupe ou examen écrit) est égale ou supérieure à 10/20 : vous pouvez demander le report de la cote partielle relative à la partie réussie et vous ne devrez pas présenter cette partie lors de la seconde session. Par contre, si vous souhaitez améliorer votre cote, vous pouvez choisir de représenter l'épreuve.
En seconde session, la cote globale de l'unité d'enseignement est calculée comme suit :
- Examen sur le cours théorique : 50 %
- Rapport écrit individuel : 50 %
L'examen sur le cours théorique aura lieu en deux parties.
Première partie : examen écrit
L'examen écrit se déroulera à distance de 9h00 à 10h30 le vendredi 28 août 2020 sur la plateforme électronique eCampus, dans les mêmes conditions qu'en juin 2020. Il s'agira d'un examen écrit à questions ouvertes. L'examen écrit comportera des questions relatives au cours théorique mais pas de questions relatives aux rapports.
Deuxième partie : examen oral
Les étudiants qui ont réussi l'examen écrit (cote égale ou supérieure à 10/20) sont dispensés de l'examen oral mais ils pourront toutefois le présenter s'ils souhaitent améliorer leur cote. Les étudiants qui ont raté l'examen écrit (cote inférieure à 10/20) devront présenter l'examen oral.
L'examen oral se déroulera le mercredi 2 septembre, via Lifesize, entre 13h00 et 18h00. L'ordre de passage sera communiqué aux étudiants concernés.
La cote finale pour le cours théorique correspond à la moyenne de la cote de l'examen écrit et de la cote de l'examen oral.
Le rapport écrit est individuel, c'est-à-dire que chaque étudiant est évalué séparément. Le rapport écrit concerne la partie pratique du cours. Les acquis d'apprentissage sont inchangés par rapport aux sessions précédentes.
Le rapport écrit individuel doit être envoyé à Christophe Breuer par courrier électronique (au format PDF à l'adresse christophe.breuer@uliege.be) au plus tard le lundi 17 août 2020.
