Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course aims to study in a profound way the sustainable building techniques and principles. The course covers elements such as construction materials and construction approaches as well as other basic notions of different construction technologies and their implementation. The two components - construction and materials - are covered in a logical sequence that helps to understand reciprocal relation between the two topics and permits also to master their interdependence.
- Design and sustainable construction and environmental impact of buildings.
- The anatomy of buildings (space, structure, materials)
- Classifying structural elements (foundation, walls, stones, beams, roofs,
- Construction systems and foundations (foundations, raft foundation, slabs)
- Construction systems of load-bearing walls (insulation brick walls)
- Construction systems of wood (timber skeleton)
- Execution Documents: design drawings, development of working drawings
- Details and sequence of details.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course the student should be capable of:
- Observing and drawing of constructions
- Knowing the construcyion systems and their procedures of the load distribution in relation to structure and envelope.
- Knowing the main materials and constructions elements and their implementation.
- Applying and proposing architectural measures at the base of logical constructive types (constructive geometry, transmission of forces, stability, and elementary physics of the envelopes).
- Make an inventory: of references and understand the common constructive systems
- Comparing: identifying and differentiating the solutions
- To appoint: recognizing and knowing the parts of an construction ensemble
- Proportioning: materializing and ordering the different parts of the structure.
- Project: compose and communicate solutions
- Create and develop a building construction plans (modules, proportions, dimensions, layers)
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Obligaory prerequisite
ARCH3258-1 Techniques de construction durable des bâtiments IA - éléments - Partie A
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is comprised of 18 hours of theoretical classes and 18 hours practical work. It will take place in the 2nd quadrimester.
Theoretical lectures, practical work, integrated project, site visit(s), participatory and interactive teaching. It is expected that students read the modules of the course before the course. During the course, we will discuss the most difficult issues and we will do exercises.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Face-to-Face presence from September till December: Lecture courses, visites, project.

Assessment methods and criteria
The evaluation of the project during the semester is 20% of the overall score, including an assessment of attendance, the work provided during the meeting and the progress recorded in during the semester.
The presentation during the intermediate jury represents 20% of the overall score. Listing will be defined by the supervisors of course.
The final jury represents 60% of the overall score. Listing will be defined by an external jury to the project. The proliferation of unjustified absences (beyond two), either on courses or TP sessions result in a withdrawal point of the overall coast. The challenge is not only to validate the knowledge, but also know-perhaps it is essential to respect in your future career. Rendering sketch is not side, but not surrender result in the removal of two points on the final climb of the course.
Assignments:
The interim board will be listed and will be feedback collective and / or customized as needed. The final result will be presented to a jury and will be subject, at the request of the student, a final feedback.
Students who have not completed all the mandatory activities may not be admitted to the
exam (if an exam is organized). The absence of mandatory elements does not allow a
quantified evaluation of the student's work. An "A" grade is therefore awarded in
this case (unless there is a special justification examined fairly by the teacher and
accepted by him).
Work placement(s)
Organizational remarks
Unjustified absences (beyond two times) will disqualify the student from attending the final jury.

Assessment subjects
- Production of a graphic file showing plans, sections and elevations (facades). - The representations must be rated and each constituent material must be clearly identified and listed in a legend or descriptive inventory referenced. These information should be appropriately adapted to each scale of representation. - The drawings must be designed to be printed in black and white and shades of gray, the color cannot be used as a graphic information resource.
Assessment methods
The final examination will only be based on the evaluation of your project panels in pdf format. This evaluation will be done by me on my side, there will be no oral defense (neither physically, nor by Lifesize).
