Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course includes a theoretical part and a design studio.
The theoretical course teaches integration in the design process of urban contextual, programmatic, environmental, social, regulatory and technical constraints. It describes a design and multi-criteria analysis method based on the concepts of contextuality, coexistence and coherence. The theoretical course is illustrated by various examples of urban design and urban renewal projects.
The design studio aims to integrate the theoretical skills developed into the practice of an urban project. The specificity of the project concerns the scale of the urban block, including the layout plan, the composition of the buildings and the design public spaces.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course objectives are :
- Understanding the multidisciplinary issues of urban projects' planning and design.
- Learning a multi-criteria method for assessing and designing built environments
- Developing skills in project design by the passage of a building integrated in an urban context to the composition of a complex of buildings and public spaces that connect them.
- Developing theoretical knowledge and practical skills in urban composition
Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session
Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning
Following confinement, the studio sessions are organized by videoconference using the Lifesize tool, which allows students to share their screen with the teachers. Students are invited to prepare a presentation of their project via power point or Sketsha (for interactive digital drawing on plan). A scheldule is fixed before each session.
Assessment subjects
The evaluation of the course relates to the project carried out during the year.
Assessment methods
Projects are defended by videoconference in front of a jury of experts, thanks to Lifesize. The evaluation covers the work provided throughout the year (based on a portfolio), the quality of the architectural project submitted at the jury presentation and the quality of the overall argumentation.
A score of less than 10/20 obtained per project opens access to a second session. The student will have the opportunity to represent the concerned project.
