Learning unit contents
The course first comes back on classical themes in economic anthropology, namely the idea of interest, gift, markets, and consumption. In the second part of the course, we analyse how anthropologists study broader issues such as capitalism, informal economies, or neoliberalism.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To introduce students to theories and methods in economic anthropology. At the end of the course students will be able to analyze from an original and critical point of view the economic processes going on in our increasingly globalized world.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
To have an interest in rethinking economic analysis, and accordingly, in reflecting with new conceptual tools upon the economic and social changes of our time.

Recommended or required readings
Students must read one of the two books proposed at the beginning of the course. For each lesson, they also receive readings and/or videos related to the subject of the day.

Podcasts (powerpoint presentation with narration) have been recorded for the last course lessons. These podcasts are accompanied by the powerpoint presentations and some complementary readings in the course support tab.

Students are assessed on their knowledge and understanding of the course (including the podcasts and the readings posted on MyUlg) and the book that they have chosen to read.
Assessment methods
Students are assessed individually through an oral examination organized remotely. This exam consists of three questions.
