Learning unit contents
In this course, one will try to sketch how the main mathematical fields studied at the university have evolved form the origins to the present day.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, the student should have understood how the various fields of mathematics he has studied have evolved. He also will have had the opportunity to see how mathematics was done in the past and how the concept of mathematical rigor has matured.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A good assimilation of the various fields of mathematics of the bachelor degree.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures on the blackboard or by projector by the theacher and presentations of some themes by the students.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Face-to-face course.
Recommended or required readings
Lecture notes will be distributed at the end of each part of the course and readings will be recommended to better understand the discussed topics.
Assessment methods and criteria
The student will be judged on the presentation referred to in the learning activities.
