Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Strenthening of knowledge and analytical abilities. Stimulation of critical and methodological reflection. Training in decription ansd in stylistic and iconographic analysis. Reassessment of the historigraphical frames. Introduction to the contextualization of arts with regard to social and cultural history.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

- Expected abilities from a Master student in Philosophy and Letters (for foreign students: sufficient knowledge of the French language)
- Capacity to read a bibliography partly composed of material in French, English and German      
- Satisfactory knowledge of art history of the Renaissance : having followed the course on History of Art and Archaeology of the 15th and 16th centuries given in the 1st cycle (or equivalent)
- Good knowledge of European history of the 15th and 16th centuries

Oral exam. The assessment is based on both personal written work and knowledge of the material covered, including the publications to be read.
