Signification of the course
The management of competences in the organizations (businnesses, non profit sector, public organizations) has become a very important aspect of human resources management in those organizations.The course will help to understand the great stakes (development of the persons, social inclusion, competitiveness, performance, etc.) of the management of competences in the organizations, but also for the individuals (employment, management of personal competences) and for the Public Authorities (for the regions and for European Union : the Lisbon Strategy , the Lifelong learning). The student will reflect about the importance of the management of competences for him, for the organizations and for the whole society.
Topics.-The management of competences and of lifelong learning in the organizations : recent trends in the past, trends for the future.
-Competence : a global concept with various approaches.
-The stakes of management of comptences for individuals, organizations an Public Authorities.
-Main methodological tools for the management of competences : analysis of the demand, analysis of the crafts and competences, description of the crafts, assessment of competences, results indicators.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
-: to know and to apply the main concepts and methods of the management of competences in the organisations(knowledge)
-To analyse the stakes of the management of competences in an organization (ability).
- to be able to analyse the competences in an organization and to propose a development plan for the comptences(ability)
-To have a critical look on the evolution of the stakes linked to competences for individuals, organizations and the whole society(attitude)
This course contributes to the following Intended Learning Outcomes :
ILO-2 : Gaining the knowledge and understanding of one of the proposed fields of concentration or to gain deep knowledge in the field of the management being already specialized thru a first University Master Degree.
ILO-5 : Integrate autonomously researched information, tools, knowledge and context to build and propose, either individually or as part of a team, original, creative and viable solutions to concrete complex management problems, whether real or simulated, taking into account, when necessary, the human, social and legal context.
ILO-7 : Being capable of professional team work.
ILO-9 : Developing a critical sense (arguing).
ILO-11 : Creative conception of solutions.
ILO-14 : Faced with a management problem, suggesting solutions that are ethical and socially responsible and that respect the principles of good governance.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Common courses of human resources management in the bachelor program
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
The course will take place in 8 sessions of 3 hours:
-First session : presentation of the course, pedagogigal description, e-learning platform, main concepts, advices for reading the documents on the platform.
-Second to seventh session : for each session : case study of an organization : presentation by a representative of the organization, analysis of the situation and proposal of solutions by groups of students, final "debriefing" and link with the theory (a few examples examples of possible case studies : management of comptences and succession planning for managers in an international industrial group, management of competences in an international group of five stars hotels,the management of competences of people aged more than 45 and the transfer of competences to young generations in an industrial SME and in a great services organization; the management of competences and strategic evolution in a great services firm,etc.).
-eighth session : general synthesis and conclusion

Assessment methods and criteria
Individual final report with oral examination about the whole course
The assessment criteria will be :
-Ability to apply the concepts/ tools of the management of competences.
-Ability to analyse the stakes of the management of competences in an organization.
-Ability to analyse a concrete situation in terms of management of competences.
-Ability to propose concrete solutions in this organization.
-Ability to have a critical look on the management of competences and its evolution for the organizations, the individuals and the whole society.
