Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Geographic Information System (GIS)
Introduction to GIS as a tool for spatial data capture, management and analysis in the context of natural hazards management (for the sutdents of the Master in Natural hazards Management) or landscape architecture (for the students of the Master in Landscape Architecture). An important part of the course is dedicated to practical exercises, which allow students to discover a desktop GIS software (QGis). After completing the course the student is expected to be able to : - deal with the basic concepts of geographic information systems (vectror and raster data model, georeferrencing, projection, topology, digitizing, goeprocessing, ...); - handle the main functions of a desktopGIS software (data visualisation, data selection, layer symbolisation, geoprocessing, layout preparation); - find and set up GIS resources (data, tools) on the web.
