Learning unit contents

Since the birth of Art nouveau (Horta, Van de Velde, Hankar, Serrurier-Bovy, Hobé, etc.) and industrial constructions, modern Belgian architecture has offered a remarkable number of creators and creations of immense quality.
This era will be covered with attention placed on international and universal exhibitions that have characterized the development of the main Belgian towns.
Particular attention will be paid to the Palais Stoclet of the Brussels construction myth which marks the end of Art nouveau and the beginning of Art deco and the internationalization of architecture in Belgium.
The emergence of city gardens and regionalist architecture which opposed the first forms of Cubist rationalism and finally the Modern Movement which placed Belgium among the protagonists involved in this great change within architecture.
