Learning unit contents
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
The workshop "Ultratotem" aims to develop the analysis, synthesis and communication skills of the students. They will summarize the experience from their first two years of studies, by exploiting and combining the different skills developed in the expression and communication of an architectural project.
Educational expectation are:
- critical analysis of an architectural project and its representations;
- sensitive proficiency of the tools of representation and presentation of an architectural project: design, layout, graphics, video, photography;
- capacity for research and experimentation, ability to take risks
- development of a sensitive and critical posture regarding a particular request, seeking a balance between message to transmit and medium to use.
The workshop revolves around two main rhythms: explosion and condensation
- The first is understood as the time of research and critical analysis: students are encouraged to seek, to break down and analyze architectural projects, representations thereof. They are required to strengthen their critical sense and sensibility through the selection and analysis of references as varied as possible (graphic, spatial, artistic, common, ordinary or exceptional ...)
- The second step is that of representation and presentation. Referred by the research and preliminary analyzes, it is to shape a certain number of intentions in a synthetic form, meaningful and powerful. The students must make choices, define a posture, a particular attitude towards data collected and that the final requirement of the exercise. The student will have to rearrange existing elements or create new forms, new representations.
Please note that the program of both workshops can be integrated following the pedagogical project. Both workshops participate into the subject taught and in this case, the teachers work together and give an integrate evaluation. Such an organisation may be favored in order to promote the synthesis exercice.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
The B3 workshops offer a synthesis of learning for bachelor's students. They use the knowledge acquired in the workshops on methods of expression, as well as the knowledge acquired during the architecture workshops and theory courses.
Although the workshop leads to synthesis, it also aims to develop a system of questioning to be followed and used in the practical application of the architecture project.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
All experience acquired during the first two years (classes and workshops).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
theoretical presentations by the lecturer followed by application by the students.
The aim: to set in motion personal research with the aid of the lecturers.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
Presence at the workshops is necessary to exchange information with the lecturers and set limits to the research work to be carried out more freely by the students.
Recommended or required readings
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
The student must demonstrate autonomy with regard to research, by developing reading resources, accessing reading materials, visiting exhibitions, and attending conferences on architecture in order to broaden his or her horizon.
Assessment methods and criteria
« Ecriture de l'espace »: « Ultratotem »
Presentation work will be the subject of an assessment.
Attendance to the workshop is compulsory and part of the evaluation of the student.
Students taking the course as a residual credit and who can't attend it regularly due to scheduling constraints regarding other courses must always report it to the responsible teachers so that they can possibly establish appropriate monitoring.
Moreover, students can only enroll in this course through anticipated credits if it is compatible with the schedules of their other courses. An approval of teachers is compulsory.
