Learning unit contents

At the crossroads of the social sciences and philosophy, this collective and multidisciplinary course shows how feminist approaches and gender studies contribute to an analytical understanding of the realities of the evolving working world and of its construction of values and identities.  The course critically examines the very definition of work and its attending notions (employment, salary, recognition, production and reproduction, creation, labour, work division, profession, skills, techniques etc.).  It questions the separation and hierarchic distribution of spheres, responsibilities and involvements and shows the consequences and challenges of these conceptions and realities. It also broaches the policies and public actions relating to work and employment issues, discusses apparent paradoxes (policies remaining blind to gender while claiming gender neutrality and fight against inequalities).  The course encompasses historical, theoretical, research and field action aspects.
