Learning unit contents

Some of the principal mecanisms of social control will be examined in various fields, sucha as drugs use, risks prevention, mental health disease (via the Belgian model of social defense), occupational crime, and sentence enforcement (via prison and probation examples) .

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The very first aim is to put in evidence the intimate connections which bound together such notions as "social control" and "regulation"; "caracteristics of social exchange" and "social order"; dominatyion, power and authority; surveillance, correction, repression; devices, norms, values, measurement and behaviours.

This course will be ex cathedra organised and completed by students' oral presentations.
