Learning unit contents
The overall objective of the course is to deconstruct some stereotypes associated with the concept of aging. More concretely, various issues related to or associated with normal aging (senescence) are considered, as: (1) the origins and characteristics of the aging population (demographics), (2) physiological aging, (3) the questioning of psychometric model of cognitive decline, (4) the description of some theories explaining how a person adapts to his aging and maintains well-being and a good quality of life, and (5) the description of some transitional periods occuring during aging such as retirement, health, loneliness, greaf etc.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To have some theoritical and methodological knowledge related to the actual knowledge about normal and pathological aging.
