Learning unit contents

During this course a handbook based on a communicative approach will be used. In addition to this, students will learn how to understand  articles and audio or tv documents. Grammatical structures will be introduced progressively. By the end of the course, students should be able to use the vocabulary of the handbook, as well as other vocabulary seen in class. They should also be able to use basic grammatical structures efficiently. Exercises concentrate on pronunciation, the acquisition of vocabulary and basic grammatical structures.

- All four language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) are developed. - Acquisition of general vocabulary - Acquisition of basic grammatical structures through grammar drills and other exercises.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written and oral exam: - Written exam: 20 marks
The exam will focus on the lessons covered in "Berliner Platz" and in the grammar book. Students' command of the topics, the vocabulary and the language structures covered in class, as well as their writing skills will be tested. Reading comprehension skills will also be tested.
- Oral exam: 20 marks
Questions on the units seen in class. In addition to this, each student will present a one-page article.
All parts of the June and September exams are compulsory. Students absent from one of the exam parts will be assigned a mark of 0.
