Learning unit contents

24 hour course The course is given in Q2 only.
Classes will be taught for two hours each week. The classes will include the following activities:
- discussions and debates on psychology-related topics;
- short case-studies presented orally;
- seminars (presentations + activities) organised by each student.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

• present a clear and smoothly-flowing description or argument in a style appropriate to the context and with an effective, logical structure;
• express him or herself fluently and, in the event of difficulty, effectively and smoothly restructure a sentence;
• Organise and manage activities in class so as to encourage the participation of the other students. The student will therefore also be expected to effectively manage his or her time and ensure a successful seminar;
• Give constructive feedback to his or her colleagues.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

This course is the continuation of last year's course, so the level corresponds to the European level C1+. Thus, students will need to have a comprehensive knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the previous years of their degree.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

This class uses a dynamic approach to using English specific to the domain of psychology. Students will principally be concentrating on fine-tuning their speaking skills and the activities will include:

• Presentations and workshops given in a real-life setting;
• Case-studies and giving constructive feedback;
• Debates and discussions on themes linked to psychology.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Weekly 2 hour class in a group of about 25 students. The course will be focussed on speaking practice.

Articles and audio files for debate and general interest will be uploaded to eCampus.
Each group will post the agenda of their seminar on eCampus the week before the seminar itself.
