Learning unit contents
Oral and written activities based on texts, articles and videos dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the class, which implies reading the texts before coming to class.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing. - Enhancing students' ability to cope with specialised English texts . - Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through oral presentations and discussions based on the texts of the coursebook, videos and films.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The level of this course corresponds to the European level B2-C1. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the B-level course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course was designed to help students:
- broaden their domain-specific vocabulary through a variety of exercises (e.g. drilling, fill-in-the-gaps, multiple-choice exercises);
- improve their reading skills through a selection of psychology-related texts in different registers (scientific texts and short stories);
- enhance their listening skills by watching videos on psychological topics;
- develop their speaking skills through oral presentations, group work, role-play, debates, etc.; and
- work on their writing skills (PPTs, summaries, comments).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Follow your teacher's instructions to prepare your work for in-class sessions which might vary from reading a text to doing eCampus exercises.

Assessment methods and criteria
Please note that in order to obtain a final mark in January, it is mandatory to take each of the three elements mentioned below:
1. Listening comprehension exam (8/20)
2. Oral presentation in class (5/20)
Students will be asked to give a presentation on one of the texts from the textbook
(in groups of 5-6 students)
3. Oral exam (7/20)
10-minute discussion based on a book.*
NB : if you fail your exam in January, in August, you will have to retake:
- the oral exam, and
- the listening comprehension (even if you passed this part in January).
The mark for the oral presentation will be kept only in case it favours your final score.
