Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The lecture of geological mapping provides an introduction to the history of geological mapping in Belgium as well as an overview of basics in geological mapping.

Numerous exercises of mapping and drawing of geological profiles are carried out to improve the understanding of the spatial relationship between geological layers.

The fieldwork (partly guided) will focus on the making of a geological map in the Condroz, on detailed layer mapping as well as on structural geology.

The geological map has to be prepared with GIS tools and produced in digital format.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Introduction to geological mapping, learning of numerous mapping techniques and working in the field.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

néant

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Indoor practical work on maps and fieldtrips.

The students will also be formed in mapping with GIS tools.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

6-7 lectures (4 h each) are given in the classroom.

5-6 days are spent in the field - transport is by car.
