Learning unit contents
Ateliers de prospective
Workshops are based on a territorial diagnostic and prospective study that will be realized during a week fieldworks abroad. They confront the student with fieldworks methodological problems and with the relativity of the idea of development.
Main tools to collect and analyse information (Oral survey, observation, landscape analysis...) and tolls to assess the regional development and to foresight it are presented.
A cooperation with local stakeholders is foreseen.

2. Command of research methods of economic and social geography
3. Approriation of interview and survey techniques
4. Use of the geographical knowledge to realise a territorial diagnostic from a sustainable development viewpoint.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Landscape analysis, Spatial analysis, cartography, rural and urban geography, and geomorphology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Ateliers de prospective
The lectures and the exercises present tools and prepare the students to the projects. They are planned in Belgium during the first quadrimester and during one week of May abroad. These projects tend to be as close as possible of real condition of work. Students work in collaboration with stakeholders.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Ateliers de prospective
Lectures will be given at the geographic institute to present the tools to collect and analyse information and to prepare the fieldworks. Some evenings during the fieldworks are also dedicated to theory. Several reports are requested.
