Learning unit contents

In general terms the course presents...
· The principles, characteristics and varieties of ICT uses 
· Their advantages and limits in linguistic or cognitive terms, particularly in the context of language learning
· Issues in this field and their implications at the level of objectives and teaching methods for languages
· Modalities for the use of TIC in course and classes teaching French as a foreign or second language
The course bears upon different types of online tools and equipment for learning that integrate TIC. It is aimed at critical analysis of digital resources as well as their pedagogical use in classes of French as a foreign language.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Participants in the course should become able to:
- Gain facility using the Internet for pedagogical purposes
- Evaluate the usefulness of multimedia resources in classes of French as a foreign language
- Discover digital pedagogical resources
- Work up and try out pedagogical scenarios making use of TIC
- Create interactive online activities and exercises
- Make use of various functionalities of an e-learning platform
 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

- Should have knowledge and/or experience in linguistics and teaching methods
- Should have knowledge of basic computer skills (word processing, e-mail, Internet navigation).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

After having reflected on the specific nature of the TIC within the framework of teaching French as a foreign language, students will be introduced to concepts of hybrid learning, pedagogical scenarios and the appropriate arrangements and equipment accompanying these. They will then be asked to design a lesson plan that makes us of digital resources of several types in association with a communication scenario. Students will learn to post learning materials online on an e-learning platform, and to direct online activities.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Second semestre, Tuesday, from 12:00 pm to 02:00 am, Complexe Opéra (Salle Pousseur).

Various documents and bibliographical references will be given to students during the course.
Class notes will be posted as appropriate on eCampus (FLES0003-A-a : Des TICe pour l'enseignement/apprentissage du FLE).

Assessment methods and criteria

The following will be assessed:

  • Online tasks (on eCampus), to be carried out throughout the quadrimester
  • An original ICT-based lesson, which will have to be uploaded on any chosen training medium (platform, blog, wall, etc.)
  • A pedagogical file presenting the student's work (references to the course, personal reflections, justifications of choices, quotations, screenshots of the online lesson, etc.)
Students will have to present their work orally and in groups to their lecturer.

Organizational remarks

If the group exceeds 40 students, it will be divided into 2 sub-groups. Each sub-group will be taught every other week (Opera Building) and will have to work online between classes.
