Learning unit contents

As an introduction course to criminal law, this course situates criminal law in the historical, social and juridical sphere. The introduction to criminology aims to present the student with importance of criminological sciences through several specific topics (economic criminal law, terrorism, victimology, etc.).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Following themes are dealt with : - the historical development of criminal law and its philosophy ; - the sources of criminal law ; - the basic principles of criminal law ; - the application of criminal law in time, space and towards the person ; - the crime : the constitutive elements, the classification ; - the punishable attempt and the punishable participation ; - the punishment. - the importance of criminological sciences through several specific topics (economic criminal law, terrorism, victimology, etc.).

Introduction to judiciary law. Criminal law. Criminal law procedure

Practical cases

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Ex cathedra lecture during the first part of the year.
Tutorials : Exercices sessions.

Recommended or required readings

Students have a book and a casebook which are available to Faculty of Law's Legal Editions (update 01.09.17)
Students have to acquire by themselves an exemplary of the Penal Laws (or by internet site SPF Justice).

Assessment methods and criteria

Written exam in january, may-june and august 2018.
