Organisation and examination
Teaching in the second semester
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course consists in a study of chemical kinetics:
- phenomenological kinetic laws
- experimental methods
- multi-step reactions, steady state, reaction mechanisms
- heterogeneous catalysis
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, the students are expected to be able to use the basic physico-chemical tools necessary to account for the dynamical processes leading to equilibrium.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Knowledge of the basic concepts of mathematics (functions, derivatives, integrals, simple differential equations), physics and general chemistry, taught in the first two years of chemistry studies at ULg, is required.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
2-hour or 2.5 hour lectures favouring the active participation of the students.
Interactive exercise classes focussed on numerical applications which aim at deepening the understanding of the essential concepts of the course.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Sequence of theoretical lectures during the second semester together with exercise classes organized in parallel. The schedule is available online: http://www.facsc.ulg.ac.be/cms/c_5000/fr/accueil
Recommended or required readings
Detailed lecture notes (in French) are available. A list of reference books will be provided.
Assessment methods and criteria
An exercise test will be organized. Students who fail have the opportunity to make an additional test in May or June.
An oral examination on the theoretical course takes place in May or June. A second possibility is given in August or September.
The final grade takes all partial assessments into account (theory and exercises).
Work placement(s)
Organizational remarks
The course is identical to the chemical kinetics part of course CHIM9285-1 and is given following the same schedule, available online: http://www.facsc.ulg.ac.be/cms/c_5000/fr/accueil
