Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Surface active agents are present in numerous formulated products and used in the production process of many materials. This course aims to provide a comprehensive approach on general principles of surface-active agents physical chemistry and their formulation in finished products. The main families of surface-active agents will be presented (11h). Finally, the use of surfactants for the polymerization process in aqueous dispersed media will be discussed (4h).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course aims to make students familiar with the surface-active compounds currently used in industry and to provide them with the underlying basic physico-chemical principles.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge of chemistry.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Five lessons (11 h) will be devoted to the presentation of the main categories of surface-active agents. Two lessons (4h) will describe the use of surfactants for the polymerization in aqueo us dispersed media.
Recommended or required readings
A copy of the slides (in French and/or in English) will be furnished to the students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written preparation and oral presentation of the exam
Work placement(s)
Organizational remarks
The course will start in February (2h/week)
