Learning unit contents

In continuity with Social and Cultural Anthropology I, this course concentrates on the theories that have become influential in anthropology in the second half of the 20th century. These theories will be illustrated by concrete case studies taken from various ethnographic contexts.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To introduce students to theories of culture in anthropology. At the end of the course, students will be able to discuss the light that each theory can shed upon the central issues of our time.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Students must have completed the course of Social and Cultural Anthropology I, appreciate theory, enjoy reading, and have a high degree of curiosity.

The course consists in face-to-face lessons.

A copy of PowerPoint presentations used during lessons will be posted on the MyUlg portal. Students will also receive readings.

Assessment methods and criteria

Details about the type of examination will be given during the first lesson. Evaluation will focus on knowledge of the course and readings.
