Learning unit contents :
Students will learn how to examine French and English conjointly and determine what are the parallels and differences between the two languages at the micro and macro levels, so to speak. 
Particular attention will be paid to contrastive lexicology and phraseology, contrastive semantics and syntax. Students will also learn how to name and master the "procedures" (cf. Vinay and Darbelnet) facilitating the translation into English or French
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
By the end of the course, students will have gained insight into matters related to contrastive analysis, in particular:
Nominalization and De-nominalization
Idioms and Collocations
Punctuation
Transposition of English Adverbs and Prepositions
English/French Worldviews and Syntax
Articles
Aspects and Tenses
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Very good knowledge of English and French
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course combines theoretical sessions with practicals (in class and at home). Students will have to read the recaps and do their assignements in the reader as we go along.

A reader will be available in mid-October. It includes practicals and recaps. Pdfs of my Powerpoint presentations will be sent by email after class.
Assessment methods and criteria :
A written exam with theoretical and practical questions.
  
 
Participation in class will also be evaluated.
