Learning unit contents :
This course prolonges the course "Exercices de traduction du néerlandais vers le français I (culture)".
It places a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of translation. It covers a large variety of themes and text types such as literary extracts, editorial (advertising or information brochure) or cultural texts (presentation of art work, play, artist), editing and analysis of translated extracts, etc.

 
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
- Be able to determine the purpose of the text to be translated, the language level and tone in accordance with the customer, propose any cultural adaptations, request access to information and/or validation of terminology, know how to justify translation choices.
- Understanding problems of comprehension and translation;
- Checking and applying of spelling, grammaticaland typographic rules;
- Knowing how to gather information; 
- Being able to re-read and review a translation.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Excellent (passive) knowledge of Dutch and excellent knowledge of French. Knowledge of Dutch and Flemish culture
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
- Prior to each lecture, you will need to prepare at home, a text of about 300 words. After analysis of the various translation suggestions in class, common final version. Review of the translation and refinement of the French version;
- Tandem preparations (translator/revisor) in order to accustom students to working in a team;
- Group translations
