| The course aims to introduce students to different kinds of translation, different kinds of texts and various areas of knowledge.Special attention is devoted to sight translation. | |||||

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| By the end of the course students will have further developed translating responses, including the frequent need to rephrase the original.The blatant shortcomings of many source texts will have forced them to revise the common notion that a translation ought to be 'faithful to the original'. Since we cover various fields, thecourse also offers an opportunity to enlarge their knowledge and the world and to finetune their research methodology. | |||||

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

| A good knowledge of English and an excellent knowledge of French. | |||||

| A large part of the course consists of exercises. | |||||

| Professional translators will be invited as guest speakers. We also offer extra sessions on some Saturday afternoons coorganized with the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters. | |||||
