| Oral, written and listening activities based on a short stiry and a film dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in class. | ||||||||

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| - Improving the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing.
- Enhancing students' ability to cope with a non-scientific text, namely a short story, related to psychology (understanding, analysing, summarizing, reacting to the content). - Improving listening skills basically with the help of a film (understanding the content, broadening the vocabulary, dealing with different accents). - Writing a comparative analysis of the short story and the film following the guidelines and rules given. |

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

| The level of this course corresponds to the European level B2-C1. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the B-level and C-level (1st part) courses. | ||||||||

| The course was designed to help students:
-broaden their domain-specific vocabulary through a variety of exercises (e.g. drilling, fill-in-the-gaps, multiple-choice exercises); -improve their reading skills through non-scientific psychology-related texts; -enhance their listening skills by watching films dealing with psychological issues; -develop their speaking skills through discussions; -work on their writing skills (comparative analysis and comments) |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| 1. Written assignment (5/20)
Students will be asked to write a comparative analysis (1 page) 2. Written exam in May and August (15/20) Reading comprehension exercises based on an unseen text (12/20). Writing exercises (students will be asked to comment on quotations, and/or to express their opinion on one of the given topics from the film/short story) (3/20). |
