Course contents :
Reflexive approach to the mechanisms et techniques of translation. Reflection on translation theories and how they can be used to sharpen the students' analysis of their own tranlsating skills.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Analysis of the translation problems derived from the syntax and specificities of the English language. Development of the students' reflection on concepts of traductology.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Excellent command of the English language. Perfect command of the target language, i.e. French. Intellectual curiosity and méthodological accuracy. .
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Analysis of the main translation theories and how they can be used as interpretive tools to sharpen the students' translating skills. Translation exercises which highlight the specificities and difficulties of the English language.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
In-class (2h a week) 1st semester

Texts on translation theories as well as texts to be translated are posted on MyULg.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam in January with dictionaries and Internet access. Commented translation of a new text.
