Course contents :
The course follows in the footstep of the course entitled "Psychopathology of older adults" (PSYC1055-1). We will discuss clinical fields that have not been previously developed. In particular, this course will focus on the caregiver approach and hence will aim to understand how older adults face and adapt to a stressful life situation. This will be illustrated through the clinical case of a relative (e.g., spouse, parent, or others) suffering from Alzheimer's disease or related syndrome of a relative.
Other themes will be addressed depending on the time available: sexuality and aging, bereavement and widowhood, loneliness, etc.
Learning outcomes of the course :
This course is intended to be as interactive as possible. It will seek to alternate between lecture and exchanges with students. The time devoted to debate and clinical exchange will be (where possible) based on vignettes, videos, etc.
The idea is to push students to take a stand in the face of specific situations. This position must be built on theoretical background based on previous classes and courses (not necessarily specific course on aging).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Course "Aspects psychosociaux du vieillissement" (PSYC1092-1)
Course "Psychopathologie de la personne âgée" (PSYC1055-1)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
