Course contents :

| 1. Crisis-conflict-rupture and change; the systemics of conflict. 2. Social evolution, morals and the concept of justice. 3. The history of mediation, definitions, typologies and related processes (conciliation, arbitration, negotiation) 4. The conditions for mediation. Principles and basic conditions for mediation. Mediation and its limitations. 5. The process of mediation: phases, context, dangers and contra-indications. Deontology and ethics of mediation. 6. The tools, methods and positions of mediation. Attitudes and skills of the mediator. Third parties. 7. Mediation, the field of application and familial, therapeutic, penal, organisational, school, social/community and ombudsman professionalisation. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| 1. To acquire the theoretical foundations for tackling mediation. 2. To enable students to situate mediation within social and ethical evolution, and the concept of justice. 3. To acquire the methodological and technical foundations to enable the mediation process to be managed. 4. To learn how to use methods and techniques covered in class. 5. To understand the professionalisation of mediation 6. To develop a critical approach to establishing a mediation process 7. To develop a critical approach in terms of one's own mediation practices and to recognise one's own style. |
