Course contents :
Development of questions, scales and items measuring sociodemographics, socio-affective constructs and contextual variables in education. questionnaires.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The learning outcomes of this seminar are the following ones :


  • explore different frameworks for background questionnaires and non cognitive variables
  • reflect about an assessment framework; select skills, processes, contents and aspects to assess, develop questions and items in order to measure adequately constructs;
  • know and apply the technical guidelines in order to build items and questionnaires;
  • collect accurately data and code the data in an appropriate way;
  • perform the appropriate analyses in order to check for the psychometric properties of the items and scales: alpha of Cronbach alpha, factorial analysis...;
  • interpret the analyses and draw the conclusions for reviewing the instruments;
  • write a report presenting the results of the tests and questionnaires.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
  It is trongly recommanded, before taking that optional course, to have followed or to follow in parallel :

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Theory and practical classes are closely linked. The approach is problem-based learning. After a couple of theoretical classes, students have to build, analyse, revise items and questions for background questionnaires.
