Course contents :
Evaluating leaning is an essential component of the teaching and training expertise. It's closely linked to the way training is globally designed.
Nowadays, deep changes generate a transformation of both thinking and practices in evalusation, in particular in the sector of adult training. For instance, the development of competence-based evaluation arises numerous questions around evaluation.
This course will be an opportunity to discuss questions connected to this evolution. It will also ask the students to analyse learning assessment settings and propose improvements.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Globally, by the end of the course, the students will have :
- Analyzed an evaluation situation in its training context, using proposed tools;
- Identified and differentiated the assessed learning outcomes (especially knowledge, skills, professional attitudes and competence);
- Designed and written down improvements to a contextualized evaluation, documenting and justifying the rationale of those improvements.
(see the "assessment" section for more details)
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
None
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course consists in a series of face-to-face sessions where resources and framework for analysis are presented, complemented with some testimonies from trainers or researchers who present an evaluation practice and offer it to the collective analysis.
In parallel, in groups, the students identify a training or teaching situation where the question of the evaluation is raised. Therefore, they contact a teacher or a trainer interested to question his/her situation of evaluation.
The groups design, formalize and propose evaluation/assessment methods that would improve the chosen situation and justifytheir choices using the resources provided during the course as well as personnal ones.
The groups also provide a feedback of their work to the teacher/trainer they collaborated with, and discuss their proposals with him/her. The groups finally evaluate the implemented approach and write a group report. They also produce a mini-video in which they underline some pointing elements they've learned / understood along this work.
The course is mainly face-to-face, but the group work is organized following the groups' preferences.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Blended (mainly face-to-face, one session on-line, and the group work following the groups' preferences)
Recommended or required readings :
The course space (on eCampus) includes reference articles as well as the Powerpoint presentations and other resources used durong the course sessions.
Assessment methods and criteria :
The group reports will be graded through a group note (weighting 50% of the final grade) and an individual note (weighting 30% as well) for the individual analysis of each of the students.
The oral defense will be weighted 20% of the final grade.
For each group, the grades will be available only if they have posted their mini-video on the online courses' space. That video might have some individuals gain an additional bonus point if they have deeply engaged in it.
