Course contents :  
Some people claims that there is no qualitative analysis without software. And, indeed, software can help. However, as any technique, software tools contains traps. The course helps students to take advantage of software tools while avoiding such traps.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
After the course, the student is able to :
  • choose the accurate software tool, given a selected situation in qualitative analysis
  • code a text with code-and-retrieve (CAQDAS) tool
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Although not mandatory, a former training in qualitative research is of great help for any participant.

The methodological introduction is an ex cathedra teaching. The following lessons are practical sessions.

Assessment methods and criteria :  
The student collects his/her own material and analyses it with the aid of software tools. He/She presents results and discuss the benefits and the disavantage of the used tool.

Organizational remarks :  
  • Presentation of the Qualitative Method on Monday 17/11/2014 and 24/11/2014, from 10 to 13 in the B31 Building, Domat amphitheater.
  • Practical sessions from 13.30 to 16.30 on  11/2/2015, 25/2/2015 & 11/3/2015. A laptop could be useful during these sessions.
