Course contents :

| The course introduces the particularity of qualitative approaches though successive stages in a scientific research (data collection, analysis and interpretation) and presents an overview of selected analytical techniques : discourse analysis, content analysis and grounded theory methodology (GTM).
Practical work allows the students to test their knowledge by conducting and analyzing of an interview. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| The student will be able to
- given a research question, decide whether a qualitative or a quantitative approach is relevant
- accurately define qualitative terms
- differentiate content analysis and discourse analysis from grounded theory methodology (GTM)
- conduct an interview
- actively participate to a collective analysis of text material
- summarize results from a collective research
- create accurate slides

- Theorical sessions are ex cathedra teaching, using slides.
- Practical work consists in realizing a qualitative research (elaborating a research question, conducting and analysis of an interview).

Assessment methods and criteria :

Examination (individual)
Written examination in first session; oral examination in second session.

Logbook (collective)
Each team helds a logbook troughout the practical work.

Presentation (collective)
Practical works are organised (and evaluated) in first session only.
The written examination, the logbook and the presentation are each worth 33 % of the global note. Such a mean is calculated only when the note of each part is greater than 8/20. If it is not the case (one of the note is less than or equals 8/20), the global note will equal the weakest note. |
