Course contents :  
This course aims to develop some contributions of the main theories of learning for instruction. It also discusses some characteristics of adolescents and their possible impact on learning.
The course is made up of five chapters:
I. Theories of learning: some history
II. Contributions of behaviorism to teaching
III. Contributions of cognitivism to teaching
IV. Contributions of (socio)-contructivism to teaching
V. Some characteristics of adolescents
Learning outcomes of the course :  
1) Discovering and understanding the foundations of classical theories of educational psychology and some key concepts of these theories.
2) Discovering and understanding some characteristics of adolescents.
3) Analysing teaching practices in light of theoretical perspectives and core concepts of these theories.
4) Analysing the impact of certain characteristics of adolescents on their commitment to school and their learning.
5) Being able to take advantage of the theoretical contributions to analyze one's practice and to design improvements and innovations in teaching.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
None.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
- Discovering course content through explanation of the core concepts, and illustrative examples (videos, fictive cases or from observations during teaching stages,...)
- Reading of an interactive textbook (main concepts + teaching and learning implications + searching for examples in one's own disciplinary field + questions to assess understanding + case studies)
- Extrerne participants (for the adolescence chapter)
- One BVE lesson
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
4 on-site courses (Thursday 25/09, 16/10, 27/11 and 4/12 - from 17:30 to 20:00)
2 distance-courses (Thursday 02/10 and 09/10)
A permanence to answer any questions related to both distance-courses (Monday, 27.10 - from 17:30 to 19:00)
Recommended or required readings :  
An interactive textbook available on myULG and to the Presses Universitaires.
A copy of the ppt will also be available on myULg.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
A written exam.
More details will be given during courses.

Students who hold a degree in psychology or Science Education don' have to do the course.
