Course contents :

| This course introduces and describes various methods of research in education and training by focusing on the grade repetition issue.
This problematic of grade repetition is discussed from a national point of view, as well as from an international point of view, in its psychological, educational and sociological dimensions. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
 |
| This lecture will discuss the following topics:
1. The diversity of Educational systems and practices in the European Union ;
2. Pedagogical processes and sociologic stakes that generate grade repetition;
3. Review of the Scientific literature on effectiveness of grade repeatition practices at individual and educational system levels;
4. Pedagogical alternatives to suppress grade repeatition practices.
Those different contents pursue following objectives:
1. Discovering the variety of researches' methods used in educational research;
2. Learning to interpret results of research presented under diverse forms;
3. Identifying biases and methodological weaknesses of the studies ;
4. Understanding experimental designs. |

| The content of the assessment consists of the different topics presented during the talks, as well as the slides and the book of M. Crahay.
Teacher's requirements are presented during the first talk. Compulsory written exam (100 true-false questions). |
